How to Ride Your Scooter Like a Pro!

Riding your gas scooter or electric scooter with control and safety will require practice. Anyone that will be riding the scooter needs to know the proper way to ride his or her scooter. This will help ensure that you get the most mileage out of your scooter and that you avoid potential accidents by riding incorrectly.

Start by becoming familiar with the scooter before you ride. Read and understand the manuals. Check out the controls. Read and understand all safety and warning labels on your scooter. Ride very cautiously until you become familiar with the way the scooter handles. Take turns slowly and give yourself extra stopping distance.

You must learn to stand firm but relaxed, keeping your weight between the wheels. Don't stand too close to the front or too far back on the scooter. Be sure to shift your weight to the rear when applying brakes, and lean forward when accelerating. Keep feet apart for more stability.

Gently steer into your turn without any jerky motions. Adjust your balance to keep the scooter upright. Always approach turns very carefully.

Front brakes provide most of your stopping power. Practice at a safe speed until you are comfortable with how they work.

Ride your scooter in a safe place away from other vehicles and in an area which will not disturb other people or animals. Be sure the riding area is a clean and dry surface. Do not ride in high traffic areas.

Scooting is the new fun, safe way of getting around!

General Scooter Safety Tips

  • Electric or gas scooters are intended for use by persons aged 8 and above.
  • Operators must comply with all local laws and regulations. Check with your local police department or motor vehicles department to determine local requirements. Pay special attention to local helmet laws. Licensing and registration varies from state to state.
  • Always wear your ANSI or Snell-approved helmet. Elbow and knee pads will protect you from laceration in case of a fall.
  • Do not operate the gas or electric scooter at night. The scooter is not equipped to be operated i the dark or low light conditions. It may not be easily visible to cars, pedestrians or other scooters. If necessary, purchase a safety headlight for your motor scooter.
  • Ride only on smooth hard surfaces. Motor scooters are not designed to be used in off road conditions. Use caution when rolling over obstacles.
  • The motor, batteries and controls can be damaged if exposed to water. Do not allow the motorized scooter to be used in the rain, nor to be driven through puddles of water.
  • The scooter should be used by only one person at a time. Do not carry additional persons or items while riding. Do not put additional load on the motor scooter by pulling or towing anything.
  • Contact your insurance agent for information regarding coverage for accidents involving your new scooter.

    Mechanical Safety Tips

  • Check all parts and brakes periodically to ensure the motor scooter or E-Bike is working properly and still properly assembled.
  • Stop using the bike immediately if any part of the electric or gas scooter becomes loose. Correct the looseness prior to resuming the ride.
  • If the brake lever touches the handlebar grip, stop use of the scooter until the lever is adjusted.
  • Maintain proper air pressure in the tires. Low air pressure allowss extra rolling friction, wears the tires out quicker and reduces ground clearance.
  • Always deflate the tire before disassembling the wheel. Failure to deflate the tire could accidently cause the wheel to come apart explosively.

Safety Tips For The Battery Operated Scooter

  • Completely charge the battery before riding the electric motor scooter for the first time.
  • Disconnect the battery from the motor when not in use.
  • Keep children away from the motorized scooter while it is being recharged.
  • Stop use of the scooter or the charging unit if any wire becomes worn, broken or damaged in any way.
  • Use caution when recharging the battery. Do not recharge in an area that will the electric scooter or the charging unit to become wet. Recharge only in an area that is well ventilated.
  • Do not modify the electrical controls or wiring. Use only motors, batteries and charging units supplied or approved for electric motor scooters.
  • Do not use the electric scooter battery to power or recharge any other equipment.
